Combat Medic 3D Virtual Trainer

Medics learn how to treat internal bleeding, lung collapse, and airway trauma.


We developed Combat Medic for the Army Research Laboratory (ARL), to train casualty tactical treatment in a realistic virtual environment. Combat Medic addresses treatment of the top three injuries associated with preventable deaths on the modern battlefield: internal bleeding, lung collapse, and airway trauma.


The state-of-the-art training and simulation tool uses a 3D, collaborative virtual world accessible from any internet-connected computer. The application features customizable learning modules and offers self-directed, team-based, and instructor-led training. It includes a variable difficulty system, after action review recording and playback, and a real-time physiology engine providing human-accurate vitals to the virtual patients.


Combat Medic has been recognized for industry excellence. The application won a gold medal in the 2015 International Serious Play Competition and was a finalist in the Serious Games Showcase & Challenge at the Interservice/Industry Training, Simulation and Education Conference (I/ITSEC).
