Firefighter Breeching Tutorial

Challenge

Many facilities have windows that are specially designed to protect occupants from glass fragments and debris that may result from explosions, high winds, gun shots, physical attack, and other severe events. These special windows are generally harder to break than typical windows. This may cause some difficulties for an unsuspecting and unprepared occupant or firefighter attempting to vent or clear a window.

Solution

ARA has developed a program to teach first responders, firefighters, facility tenants, and citizens about specialty windows such as blast, hurricane, and ballistic windows through classroom, live demonstration, and online training that highlights the best forcible entry methods and tools for these window systems.

To provide this training, ARA can provide a combination of classroom instruction followed by hands-on training that gives firefighters the opportunity to breach various types of specialty windows. ARA also offers video demonstrations of firefighters breaching 80 types of specialty windows.

Thousands of users have taken the ARA-developed course and successfully passed the online examination and have successfully learned to identify these special windows and what tools would be necessary to use in order to breech them in an emergency.
