ARA Senior Engineer Kenneth Herrle has been named a Fellow by the Structural Engineering Institute (SEI) of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) in recognition of his meaningful contributions to the field of structural engineering. Only 320 members of the Institute’s 30,000 members hold this prestigious honor.
The Fellow grade of SEI membership recognizes accomplished members as leaders and mentors in the structural engineering profession. The 2025 SEI Fellows were recognized in an April 11 ceremony at the ASCE/SEI Structures Congress in Phoenix, AZ.
Herrle was also recently elected as an ASCE Fellow. According to ASCE, members elected to ASCE Fellow status have made celebrated contributions and developed creative solutions that have enhanced lives. Just three percent of society members hold this prestigious honor.
Since joining ARA in 2001, Herrle has provided structural engineering assessment, analysis, design, retrofit, large-scale field testing, and research for blast, progressive collapse, physical security, and other extreme loading events for numerous critical facilities and structures in the U.S. and abroad. He also served as co-author and/or contributor for many national-level structural protective design and physical security standards and guidelines for various U.S. government agencies and professional societies.
Herrle has provided engineering support to over 20 U.S. government agencies, numerous state and local governments, and the private sector. He has held key roles in assessment, analysis, and protective design projects in over 40 U.S. states and 25 countries for a broad range of manmade threats and natural hazards.
Herrle is a licensed Professional Engineer (P.E.) in 12 states and Washington D.C. and holds a master’s degree in civil engineering (structural engineering concentration). He previously served in the U.S. Air Force and is a Gulf War Veteran.
