SUSTAIN: Prolonged Field Care
- SUSTAIN is a modular, extensible, point of demand modeling and simulation system for use in military medical education and training for care in the field that extends beyond initial trauma care – Prolonged Field Care (PFC).
- Recent battlefield care has concentrated on the “golden hour.” This paradigm emphasizes point-of-injury training to triage and stabilize casualties who had sustained survivable traumas. As modern air, land, and sea military operations evolve, a disparate network of far forward battlegrounds will emerge as the new standard. This will result in critical casualties widely dispersed across remote areas of responsibility, in far-forward, resource-constrained environments.
- SUSTAIN will give medics in such austere environments flexible training tools that account for the cascading effects of medical treatments over long periods.
