Webinar to Highlight ARA’s Inhalation Modeling Technology

1/9/19

MPPDLogoAn ARA scientist is co-presenting a webinar as part of a series on the use of New Approach Methodologies in risk assessment.

The webinar, co-presented by Bahman Asgharian, will discuss the use of ARA’s Multiple-Path Particle Dosimetry Model (MPPD) to predict dosimetry of inhaled substances. The webinar takes place Jan. 23 at 9:30 a.m. EST.

ARA’s MPPD is a computational model that can be used for estimating human and laboratory animal inhalation particle dosimetry, reducing the need for animal testing. Respiratory tract dosimetry models in MPPD have been developed for several laboratory animal species including rat, mouse, rhesus monkey, guinea pig, pig, sheep, dog, and rabbit. The software is being used widely by the EPA and other regulatory organizations. ARA is currently funded to enhance the user’s guide for MPPD to include descriptions of various new features and case studies for risk assessment applications.

“MPPD deterministic modeling provides key dosimetry information for emerging non-animal methods that use pathway-based mechanistic information at cellular to tissue and organ levels to establish potential hazard of chemicals,” Bahman Asgharian, principal scientist

The webinar series is co-organized by the PETA International Science Consortium, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, and the Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine.
