Sensors, Instrumentation, & Test Services
ARA has developed a myriad of single- and multi-mode sensors. Our most prolific sensor, Pathfinder, is the premier footstep and vehicle detection system designed for both the commercial and military markets. It provides an expendable, affordable, actionable, and undetectable early warning capability allowing the operator to "find the path", inferring movement patterns, routes, key locations, and likely intent. The power of Pathfinder is that it accomplishes all this before the threat can cause damage or inflict harm.
Our engineers are experts in the design and integration of multiple sensor types to create customizable, integrated mobile security systems.
ARA sensor systems have been used to measure:
- Footsteps, vehicles, and digging
- Gunfire and mortars
- Temperature, humidity, wind speed, geospatial position
- Third octave band noise
- Detonation temperature
- Motion sensing
- Vehicle intrusion or tampering
- General intrusion or motion detection
ARA has been designing and utilizing our own custom instrumentation since our founding over three decades ago. In that time, we’ve also built and delivered specialized test equipment to both government and commercial clients. These systems include precision environmental and laboratory measurements, high speed and ruggedized data acquisition systems for blunt and blast testing, shock tubes capable of simulating 80 psi incident blast pressures, linear impactors for up to 20 m/s impact testing.
ARA performs many test services at our Littleton, Colorado, facility. These services include ANSI testing for hearing protection, API 6A/ISO 10423 for subsea pressure transducers, test-to-failure for electromechanical systems, blunt impact testing of helmets and padding materials, blast testing and survivability of structures and materials, ballistic testing of armor plates and behind armor materials, high-speed video events, and much more. We also utilize a large rural test facility for large scale explosive and structure testing.
ARA also conducts RF testing and material measurement activities from its well-equipped, 8,000 square foot, multi-spectral measurement laboratory in Dayton, Ohio. ARA is a recognized leader in a broad range of related activities, including antenna and RCS testing, analysis and measurement, radar signal processing and antenna test range development and management. The facility contains RF and digital test benches, a 27-foot far-field anechoic chamber, and test fixtures for RF material characterization. Additionally, we have contracted with government and military facilities to design, develop and manage outdoor RF test ranges suitable for testing antennas, RCS and system integrations.
