ARA provides comprehensive pavement engineering research and consulting services for roadways, airfields, parking areas, and intermodal facilities. Long-time members of the transportation community, we have served hundreds of municipal, state, federal, military, and private organizations worldwide with improved pavement designs and performance.

Pavements represent a huge investment to any agency, and early pavement failures, poor performance, and costly repairs can significantly affect operations. Our research and manufacturing capabilities combined with hands-on project delivery experience uniquely qualify us to assist the transportation industry in developing long-lasting, sustainable, and cost-effective designs for both in-service and newly constructed pavements.

We have worked onsite with airports, state highway agencies (SHAs) and tollways for many years, helping to deploy new technologies, monitor program delivery, implement research findings, prepare test plans, and more. We developed, and work with SHAs to implement, both the Mechanistic-Empirical Pavement Design Guide technology and the AASHTOWare Pavement ME Design software, helping agencies realize the economic benefits of optimal pavement design.

Since 1999, we have been the U.S. Air Force’s leading provider of pavement condition index surveys and MicroPAVER implementations worldwide. We design and manufacture specialized equipment for accelerated pavement and bridge testing, including hand-held and automated dynamic cone penetrometers, the rolling wheel deflectometer (RWD), and the ATLAS accelerated pavement testing machine.

Our construction-related quality assurance and forensics services help agencies build long-lasting infrastructure, minimize disputes, and keep projects on schedule and within budget.
