Automated Traffic Recorder

ARA’s SCOUT automated traffic recorder is a true multi-tasking system capable of performing multiple traffic studies simultaneously, including:

  • Vehicle speed
  • Axle and length classification
  • Gap
  • Headway

As configured, SCOUT classifies vehicles using the Federal Highway Administration 13-category classification system; however, the classification scheme can be modified to accommodate custom applications. Speed, length, gap and headway bins also are user-definable, so any number of data collection configurations is possible. Traffic data can be stored using binned, vehicle (PVR), and event formats, and the system uses first-in/first-to-be-overwritten cyclical data storage.


Other SCOUT features include:

  • User-selectable frequency adjustments eliminate crosstalk.
  • Supports virtual channel assignments so that loop and piezoelectric boards can function in any card slot; users are not limited to mandatory channel to wire assignments.
  • Uses a 32-bit Motorola microprocessor running at 16MHz with integrated low power management.
  • Time-stamped data are stored on battery-backed RAM; 256K standard and additional memory upgrades are available.
  • Automatic board and system level
    diagnostics are performed at power-up
    with visual and audio feedback to the user.

 

 

  • Batteries can be charged using
    the included AC power adapter or
    an optional solar power adapter cable.
    SCOUT supports remote communications,
    including via phone line and wireless.

It also supports direct communications via a standard RS232 connector and automatically matches the baud rate of the calling computer, from 300 to 19200 baud. SCOUT’s advanced monitoring capabilities ensure you get the data you need to help you make the right transportation management decisions.
