SCOUT
Automated Traffic Recorder
ARA’s SCOUT automated traffic recorder is a true multi-tasking system capable of performing multiple traffic studies simultaneously, including:
- Vehicle speed
- Axle and length classification
- Gap
- Headway
As configured, SCOUT classifies vehicles using the Federal Highway Administration 13-category classification system; however, the classification scheme can be modified to accommodate custom applications. Speed, length, gap and headway bins also are user-definable, so any number of data collection configurations is possible. Traffic data can be stored using binned, vehicle (PVR), and event formats, and the system uses first-in/first-to-be-overwritten cyclical data storage.
Other SCOUT features include:
- User-selectable frequency adjustments eliminate crosstalk.
- Supports virtual channel assignments so that loop and piezoelectric boards can function in any card slot; users are not limited to mandatory channel to wire assignments.
- Uses a 32-bit Motorola microprocessor running at 16MHz with integrated low power management.
- Time-stamped data are stored on battery-backed RAM; 256K standard and additional memory upgrades are available.
- Automatic board and system level
diagnostics are performed at power-up
with visual and audio feedback to the user.
