ARA Perchlorate Contamination Solutions

Experience and Proven Results — Helping the Environment

ARA has been developing perchlorate treatment solutions since 1990

• Executed 38 perchlorate treatment projects
• Patents awarded or pending for biological and ion exchange   treatment processes
• Process development, pilot demonstration, full-scale design,
  engineering and operational support
• Developed world’s first non-combustion, commercial   treatment   system for perchlorate destruction

Proven Treatment Technologies

Biodegradation of Perchlorate: ARA’s patented biodegradation process is simple, robust, low-cost, and effective up to very high perchlorate concentrations (>5,000 ppm).  Our first commercial system has logged over 12 years of successful, continuous operation. Read More >

Perchlorate Ion Exchange Technology: ARA’s unique weak-base anion (WBA) resin technology (Patent No. US 7,875,186 B2) is being demonstrated in a full-scale system (1000 gpm) for drinking water treatment.  The WBA resin technology is a low-cost, regenerable ion exchange process that is also effective for treatment of high-strengthwastewater or remediation of contaminated groundwater. Why is perchlorate a problem?

Perchlorate is very water soluble and environmentally persistent and has been found to contaminate drinking water in some regions of the United States. This is of human health concern because perchlorate can inhibit the uptake of iodide by the thyroid gland and can inhibit the production of thyroid hormones. Learn More >
