Why is perchlorate a problem?

Perchlorate is very water soluble and environmentally persistent and has been found to contaminate drinking water in some regions of the United States. This is of human health concern because perchlorate can inhibit the uptake of iodide by the thyroid gland and can inhibit the production of thyroid hormones. Learn More >
