The ARA Denver test site consists of 52 acres of land that was
previously a Titan I launch site. ARA uses the surface area of
this site for testing purposes. The entire area is secured with
6-foot "cyclone" fencing with facilities on a 24-hour security
system. Basic utilities are provided including 3-phase
power. On-site explosive storage is available with a maximum of
1,000 lb. NEW (Net Explosive Weight) in the primary bunker and 200
lb. NEW in a separate portable bunker. Test arenas have been built
and have instrument junction boxes with cable extending to the
instrumentation recording area.
An instrumentation trailer and an office trailer supply housing
for test operation requirements. Up to
5
lb. NEW (uncased) may be detonated in the free air
with larger yields being used for buried tests. Tests are
routinely conducted with the aid of
mobile
instrumentation and workshop trailers. Since the test
site is remote and self-sufficient, multiple tests can be
conducted in one day.
The test site and operating procedures are inspected quarterly by
a DCASMA safety officer. This site has never failed an inspection
nor incurred an accident. Arrangements are in place with fire
departments and emergency medical services should their assistance
be required.
