The Department of Defense Information Assurance Certification and Accreditation Process (DIACAP) is a process that certifies and validates Information Systems (IS) so they can be interconnected to the Global Information Grid (GIG). DIACAP implements a standard set of IA Controls defined in DODi 8500.2 and assures that systems meet and maintain a security posture necessary to allow data to traverse DoD networks. DoDi 8510.01 establishes the Certification & Accreditation (C&A) process to manage the implementation of IA capabilities and services and provide visibility of accreditation decisions regarding the operation of DoD Information Systems.
