Savannah River Site Characterization

Problem Statement and Objectives

The Westinghouse Savannah Company, LLC (WSRC) required support for the on-going site characterization and foundation investigation programs at the Savannah River Site (SRS), managed by the SRS Site Geotechnical Services (SRS-SGS) Department.

The ARA team provided all testing equipment, materials, and personnel to conduct a variety of CPT test and sampling activities in this re-awarded cone penetrometer agreement.

ARA provided:
  •  60,000 linear feet (lf) of cone penetrometer testing,
  •  10,000 linear feet (lf) of seismic cone penetrometer testing,
  •  80,000 linear feet (lf) of groundwater sampling and other subsurface sampling activities.

Results and Benefits

ARA used the CPT activities conducted on-site to characterize the subsurface in-situ to aid the SGS in the qualifications of structures, environmental remediation studies, and facilities of natural phenomena such as earthquakes.
The mobile device fits in the trunk of a standard police car for portability and flexibility.
