FATEPEN - Improvement, Validation, and Support

Problem Statement and Objectives

The JTCG/ME wanted to improve their FATEPEN code, a robust general purpose penetration methodology for use in studies involving lightly armored/unarmored mobile ground targets and air targets.

Results and Benefits

ARA supplied technical insight, code distribution, configuration management support, and insight into non-fragment penetration methodology to the JTCG/ME.  Specific tasks included:
  •  Support the JTCG/ME Penetration Equations Panel
  •  Support for the Methodology Review Committee charged with
accreditation of FATEPEN for Small Fragments
  •  FATEPEN Configuration Management
  •  Distribution of Models and User Support
  •  FATEPEN Modifications for High Obliquity Impact
  •  Development of check cases for fragments for distribution with
     FATEPEN

  •  Review of Projectile Penetration Equation and Comparisons with
     test data.

The JTCG/ME was able to better utilize penetration methodology relative to their FATEPEN code.
