North Texas Tollway Authority (NTTA) – Pavement and Asset Management Services
Problem Statement and Objectives
As a member of the NTTA’s Maintenance Management Consultant (MMC) team, ARA provides a broad range of pavement and asset management services. The system consists of 314 lane-miles of urban, limited-access highways in the Dallas-Ft. Worth area. In addition, the NTTA maintains a tunnel under the Addison Airport and a bridge over Mountain Creek Lake.
Results and Benefits
ARA began serving the NTTA in 2002, with the implementation of its current pavement management system. Sine then, ARA has maintained the NTTA’s pavement management system and updated it annually. Additionally, ARA has helped the NTTA monitor and manage compliance with its GASB-34 requirements, evaluate the potential benefits of weigh-in-motion (WIM) systems, and conduct other asset management-related activities. Our services have included:
- Annual surveys of the NTTA network using our specialized digital survey vehicle to:
- Collect digital images of the pavement surface and roadside assets
- Measure pavement cross slope and longitudinal profile
- Measuring skid resistance of all of the NTTA’s mainline pavements
- Assessing pavement in-place conditions (cracking, rideability, rutting, skid resistance)
- Developing performance models for predicting future pavement conditions
- Updating the NTTA’s network-level pavement management system
- Developing multi-year pavement maintenance and repair plans
- Conducting project-level evaluations of potential major pavement rehabilitation projects
- Site selection and preliminary system design for WIM systems
- Assistance in developing GASB 34 rating criteria
