Security/Blast Consulting for NIH Building

Problem Statement and Objectives

NIH needed to design the Building 33 Complex to comply with the ISC Higher Level of Protection with a focus on one particular blast threat (W3), representing a small vehicular delivered device on a roadway in the design process.

To support this goal, ARA provided the building contractors with:
  •  Blast Design Consulting
  •  Risk Assessment

ARA conducted a risk assessment and a blast analysis of the proposed Building 33 Complex. We provided blast design consulting support to the design team and also performed a design review on the electronic and physical security systems.

Results and Benefits

ARA reviewed the structural design scheme and provided advice on materials, structural requirements, window system requirements, and other blast resistance requirements necessary to produce a hardened structure capable of providing protection from the specified W3 threat.
