Digital Image Surveys
ARA conducts digital image data collection using a vehicle equipped with digital pavement and right-of-way cameras and a set of front bumper-mounted lasers. This equipment simultaneously collects digital images of the pavement surface and measures longitudinal profile (roughness) and transverse profile (rutting and cross slope). The system also collects digital images of assets located along the roadway/runway/taxiway. Additionally, the vehicle has a geographic positioning system (GPS) receiver and an inertial navigation system capable of measuring the location of the vehicle and the images with sub-meter accuracy. The van-mounted camera and profiler system offers the highest quality downward-looking pavement images available on the market.
