Showcase Project | Cognitive Systems Engineering (CSE) Command Post of the Future (CPoF)

DARPA sought to provide military commanders and their staff with an advanced distributed, collaborative decision making environment.
The CSE Group used ARA’s Decision-Centered Design (DCD) to extract personal experiences of how technology was actually used, facilitate a conversation about how system supports the cognitive performance of users, and provide feedback on design hypotheses.

ARA provided planning and mapping tools to support the commander's battle management and information operations. The resulting mobile distributed system rapidly processes and correlates combat information, eliminating the need for fixed command posts. The project delivered a deployable system that was evaluated in multiple command post exercises, validated through field tests in Iraq and Afghanistan, and is now in use in theater.
