All-Purpose Remote Transport System

Problem Statement and Objectives

When the U.S. Air Force needed a means to safely remove or disable terrorist bombs from suspect vehicles, ARA employees began work on a remotely controlled robotic system, the all-purpose remote transport system, or ARTS.

ARTS is a commercially available rubber-tracked tractor converted for wireless remote control operation in hazardous environments. Various tools can be attached to the platform, transforming it for use in force protection and unexploded ordnance clearance operations as well as in fire fighting and hazardous/toxic waste cleanup. New applications continue to emerge for this unique system, including:

  • Range clearance
  • Force protection
  • Fire fighting
  • Hazardous waste cleanup

Results and Benefits

ARA provided engineering and technical support to design, develop, and fabricate the ARTS, and we manufacture and distribute them worldwide. ARTS units were forward deployed in direct support of Operation IRAQI FREEDOM.

ARTS is a highly mobile, multi-mission, unmanned ground vehicle with cutting-edge robotics that keeps personnel at a safe distance and out of harm's way.
