Karen Cheng, Director, Data Mining and Computational Analytics
Applied Research Associates Inc. announced today that the company has formed a new business area focusing on Data Mining and Computational Analytics (DCMA) to be led by Karen Cheng. Ms. Cheng received an MS in Electrical and Computer Engineering from Carnegie Mellon University and a BS in Electrical Engineering from Cornell University. She has worked extensively in the defense community with special emphasis in the last decade in the area of chemical and biological health effects, bio-surveillance and medical response. Ms. Cheng is currently leading the program development activity for a $9.3 million contract from the Defense Threat Reduction Agency entitled, "Canepi: A Bio-surveillance Ecosystem in the Cloud."
The new group is part of the company’s Health Effects and Medical Response Group and will draw upon resources throughout the company as well partnering with cutting edge small businesses with unique capabilities. The group's focus is on data analysis, data mining, modeling and simulation, free text analysis, computational and spatial statistics, machine learning, “big data,” and advanced visualizations.
