Professional Development

Career Development

ARA recognizes the important role professional development plays in the achievement of our mission and vision, as well as in personal job satisfaction, workplace productivity, rewards and recognition, and continuous improvement in the quality of our people and services.

Employees’ continuous professional growth and development are key to ARA’s long-term growth. At ARA we are not satisfied with just maintaining the status quo, but in improving the professional knowledge, skills, and abilities of our employees.

ARA supports and encourages career- and job-related professional development activities. Professional development activities include opportunities for on-the-job training, cross training, coaching, and internships; attendance at courses, workshops, seminars, conferences, institutes, lectures, and meetings; participation in professional and technical associations; and tuition reimbursement (when applicable).

Technical Career Path

For employees who seek the challenges of a technical rather than a management career track, ARA offers the Technical Career Path. As employees advance in their career and prove to be dedicated technical experts, they may be nominated by their Division Manager for “Distinguished Member of the Technical Staff” or “Fellow.” For the elite, ARA awards the top honor of “Associate.” Membership is limited and conferred upon those employees who meet the select criteria.

Ongoing ARA Training

ARA is committed to continuous development for our employees and we strive to provide a variety of ongoing training opportunities to assist in furthering their
professional careers.

  • New employee training: ARA 101 consists of seven one-hour courses to introduce new employees to ARA and help them succeed in their jobs.

  • Leadership Development Program (LDP): ARA-centered and focuses on the essential skills and knowledge needed to contribute to and continue ARA’s growth, technical leadership, and financial success.

  • Engineering Science Symposium (ESS): Bi-annual gathering of ARA scientists, engineers, and professional staff that offers many opportunities for colleagues to meet with one another, learn from each other, and build on ideas and best practices. The symposium includes briefings by Senior Management, professional training courses, and technical sessions presented by ARA staff describing recent work.

  • Leadership Meeting: Bi-annual meeting, which occurs during the off years of the Engineering Science Symposium, serves as another opportunity for upper management and group leaders to collaborate and share ideas and to obtain training to help them succeed as leaders within ARA.

  • Periodic training's on policy, procedure,
    and best practices.
