Progress Collapse of a building
Progressive Collapse Analysis & Design
During progressive collapse events, the majority of people located in collapsed areas of the building are typically killed or seriously injured. ARA works with the A&E's structural team to develop the progressive collapse resistant engineering design and/or review the design of the structural engineer for the particular project. ARA determines potential collapse by analyzing the structural response of a building for the case where a key structural load-bearing element is removed from the existing structural configuration. ARA authored the U.S. General Services Administration's Progressive Collapse Analysis and Design Guidelines. ARA provides thorough recommendations for modifying the design to meet progressive collapse requirements. ARA also authored and uses the Unified Facilities Criteria (UFC) Progressive Collapse Guidelines which are mainly applied to DoD facilities.
Blast Analysis & Design
ARA's Security Engineering group has assisted the federal government and commercial clients with blast consulting services since the mid 1980's. ARA's internationally recognized engineers, along with our explosive testing capabilities, allow us to solve our clients problems related to blast effects in an efficient and cost effective manner. ARA's services include design, assessment, analysis, modeling, and large scale explosive testing which allows ARA to evaluate everything from building structure and facade response to air blast, effects of fragmentation, as well as human response to blast loads. Our professionals have vast experience in renovation and retrofit of existing buildings as well as the design of new structures intended to resist potential terrorist attack. ARA provides blast consulting support in any phase of a project, to include Concept Development, Design Development, Construction Documents, and Construction Documents back check, including on-site surveys and inspections during select phases.
